January has been a very busy month for the children with lots of events taking place in the school.
Fifth Green Eco Flag Award
We are all extremely proud to be celebrating the achievement of our fifth green Eco flag. On 20th January 2015, we welcomed Eco Schools Scotland assessor, Laura Kneale, into our school in order to showcase the great work that we have been doing to raise awareness of environmental issues. She remarked on the outstanding efforts of the whole school community, the embedded respect for each other and the environment, and the strong bonds with both local and global business partners. We are all very excited to continue our Eco journey. Look out for a picture of our new flag in the gallery - coming soon!
Auchinraith Burns' Supper
The children in P3 have had a busy month preparing for the Auchinraith Burn's Supper. The children worked really hard making table decorations and learning Scottish songs and dances to perform on the day. The children served haggis, neeps and tatties with a nip of irn-bru to P6 and P7. Our reporter Ryan Campbell wrote a report about the much enjoyed event:
'The Auchinraith Burns' Supper was on Friday 30th January 2015. The Burns' Supper took place in th View and there were lots of P6s and P7s. Ellie Hamilton said 'Address to the Haggis' and then the classes ate haggis, neeps and tatties. The P3s ate shortbread and irn-bru as well as the P6s and P7s. The P3s sang 'Coulters' Candy' and 'Three Craws'. Everyone danced the Canadian Barn Dance and then our best bagpiper played.'
